If you’re like us, you’ve been hearing a lot more about cybercrime in the last few weeks. So what is it? Cybercrime is simply defined as a crime that utilizes a computer to commit fraud or another crime. With the increased potential for this type of crime, it’s important for organizations and individuals to do everything they can to protect themselves and their networks from cybercriminals.

At Earnnest we take security very seriously — both ours and yours. Here are five ways that we are actively working to keep our networks and your data safe and secure:

1. SOC 2 for Security Certification

The SOC 2 Type 2 certification process reviews Earnnest’s security procedures and protocols to verify we are using the absolute best security measures. This ongoing process verifies not only that Earnnest’s security protocols meet industry best practices, but also that Earnnest diligently implements those protocols. Earnnest is the only digital earnest money service with SOC 2 Type 2 certification.

2. Auth0 for Secure Login

Earnnest takes your security to the next level by implementing the industry-standard in login security: Auth0. You’ll notice our login is a bit different than a basic user name and password. Auth0 allows you to log in to Earnnest without having to remember a password. We’ve eliminated passwords and implemented a simpler way to log in.

3. MFA for Access Control

Multi-factor authentication (aka two-factor authentication) adds another layer of security to your login process. When logging in on a new device, our system asks for your mobile phone number. You’ll receive a code via text message to type in to our log in portal. MFA ensures the person attempting to log in is who they say they are.

4. AWS for Secure Hosting

Earnnest uses Amazon Web Services (AWS) to host our product. AWS provides the gold standard in cloud security — protecting our data and monitoring for unauthorized access to our system.  Additional benefits of AWS include: SOC 3 level security audits; infrastructure for higher scalability; best-practice resources; and the stability of a trusted network.

5. ACH for Secure Payments

Earnnest utilizes the Automated Clearing House (ACH) network — a U.S. financial network used to send money electronically. ACH payments are relied on by the federal government as the standard for secure money movement in the U.S. banking system. So you can rest assured that your are using the most secure payment option available.

Earnnest has completed over 100,000 transactions with zero instances of fraud. That’s a record that we are proud of. And we’ll continue working to provide you the most secure real estate payment option.
